Football Federation Signs $1.5Million Sponsorship Deal

The Football Federation of Cambodia on Wednesday signed a $1,5million sponsorship deal with mobile telephone Company Metfone, which will support the Cambodian football league over the next three seasons, officials announced. “Every year we will get $500,000. This money we will use to organize the national competition,” FFC President Sao Sokha said at a news conference in Phnom Penh, adding that the league will be known as the Metfone C-League next season.

All championship clubs-nine from Phnom Penh and one from Takeo province-will benefit from a better organized competition and the accompanying fan support and higher ticket sales, Mr. Sokha said. “Our sponsorship of FFC comes from our good heart for Cambodia,”Metfone Director Nguyen Duy Tho said. Part of the funding, with contributions from the international football body FIFA, will be used to construct a new $2million training center in Takeo province for the national team, Mr. Sokha said. Metfone, which launched in Cambodia in February, is a subsidiary of Viettel.
